Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

What is IASTM?

Picture
IASTM is a hands-on therapy technique that uses specially designed tools to gently break up scar tissue, release muscle adhesions, and improve movement in restricted or injured areas. This technique enhances the body’s natural healing response by stimulating blood flow, reducing inflammation, and encouraging tissue regeneration.

Two common forms of IASTM include:
  • Graston – A modern, evidence-based version of IASTM that uses stainless steel tools to treat chronic soft tissue pain, fascial restrictions, and range-of-motion limitations.
  • Gua Sha – A traditional Eastern healing technique that uses smooth-edged tools to “scrape” the skin in targeted areas, promoting circulation and releasing tension.

Benefits:
  • Reduces pain and muscle tension
  • Improves range of motion
  • Breaks down scar tissue and adhesions
  • Speeds up recovery after injury
  • Enhances athletic performance and mobility
  • Stimulates healing in chronic or stubborn areas
Common Conditions Treated:
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • IT band syndrome
  • Tennis/golfer’s elbow
  • Shin splints
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Neck and shoulder tightness
  • Low back pain
  • Post-surgical or injury-related scar tissue
  • Chronic muscle stiffness or overuse injuries

IASTM is often combined with chiropractic adjustments, rehab exercises, and other therapies for a well-rounded treatment plan.
