TRUMP THE TRAINER! It's February and it's time for another Barberry Trump the Trainer Challenge! Are you ready for the next one? Last month, we timed 100 jump ropes, 20 pushups and 10 burpees. My own son beat me by 1 second with a time of 1:18!
This month, see how long you can hold a Low Abdominal Plank! Check it out! The Guinness World Record for a low plank seems to be at 8 hours and 1 minute (set in 2016 from a guy in China)! That seems a bit much and not necessary! But, I like to think that an average woman should be able to hold a plank for at least 1minute and 20 seconds, and the average man should be able to hold it for at least 2 minutes. (Much more reasonable, right?) Planks are great for core strengthening because they engage multiple ab muscles simultaneously! These low planks can help give you a tighter stomach, less back pain, improve your posture and you might gain some flexibility too! Take the challenge and let me know how you do! The winner and the other top 4 Barberry clients will be posted at the end of this week! Good luck and really push yourself! (If your lower abs aren't sore in the morning, you probably didn't push yourself hard enough!) Low Plank: (Form is important!) - Elbows directly below your shoulders. - Feet flexed and toes on the floor. - Make an inverted "V" with your forearms - Your body should hover in a straight line. KEEP YOUR BUTT DOWN! - Squeeze your glutes (which will help keep the butt down). - Draw your navel towards your spine. - Look at the floor, directly below you, so your head stays in neutral position. - Don't forget to breath! Try to breath normal.... - AND HOLD! Be sure to consult a physician before performing any exercises or programs. Be careful peeps!
