WALKING CHALLENGE!

Whether we like it or not, September is on the way!  Let's finish the summer strong and motivated! It's time to start walking!  Now is a perfect time to start a walking program.  Let me help you!  You'll get daily walking challenges, tips/tricks, inspiration and motivation to keep moving.  PLUS, you'll have the chance of getting a chunk of the JACKPOT!

HOW IT WORKS:

During the challenge, you'll have several ways to EARN POINTS.  If you earn enough points by the end of the program, you'll get a chunk of the JACKPOT!  Everyone that participates puts in $50 cash.  If you earn all the points required, you get a share of the pot.  If you don't earn enough points, you forfeit your share of the pot.  It's that simple!  The $50 is to motivate you to meet your goals and earn your points and possibly getting more money back than what you put into it!  It'll just depend on how many people join, who makes their goals and who doesn't....

DATES OF CHALLENGE:
Start date - September 4th, 2023
End date - October 1st, 2023


Couple things you should know before signing up:

- CASH ONLY for the program.  The cash becomes part of the pot.  (So, you must stop in to sign up!)
- You must have a working device that tracks your steps.  (Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin, etc.)
- Anyone, no matter your fitness level, can join.  But, please be aware that the daily goal of 12,000 steps doesn't change based on level.  So to earn the step point each day, you'll need to hit 12,000 steps.
- Yes, running/jogging does count towards your walking and steps!  Walk, skip, jog, run, play basket ball....  Whatever works for you to get your steps in!  HOWEVER, you will never be required to do anything other than a form of walking even for the daily challenges.... After all, it is a walking challenge.
- You must check-in and send Joy your tracker (and all required details) on every Sunday night or Monday of each week and at the end of the program.  All monthly info must be in before October 3rd in order to qualify.
- If you only want to join for the motivation, tips/tricks, challenges, etc. and do not want to join for the share of the pot, you surely can!  However, please note that you do still need to pay the $50 for the program.
- Joy takes 15% of the pot for the program fee.  Nothing more.

Here is an example of how it works.

Let's say we have 20 people sign up.  Everyone pays $50, so there will be a total of $1,000 in the jackpot!  Out of those 20 people, 16 people earned enough points at the end of the program to get a part of the jackpot!  The 4 people that did not earn enough points or did not follow the rules in getting their info in on time, forfeit their share of the pot.  Then, here is how the jackpot is split.

$1,000 total in pot
Joy takes 15% for doing the challenge and the daily emails = $150
That leaves $850 left to split between 16 people = $53.12/per person

Now, let's talk about how you EARN POINTS in the program!  There will be many ways to earn points during the month.  Some of the ways to earn points will be:

- At least 12,000 steps each day (this is where the tracker comes in) of the month!  This is your base.  Each day you get to 12,000 steps, you earn a point.
- You'll have other ways of earning points each daily from the extra daily challenges like getting someone to walk with you, walking in the rain, double walks during the day, etc.  There will be all kinds of different challenges, and doing these will earn you more points!

Once you sign up for the program, you'll know what your weekly goal is for points and exactly how you can earn them.  Each day, each week will be different and something to look forward to!  

This program doesn't allow for cheaters!  Yes, most of this is going to be relying on people to tell the truth, so please, if you have a tendency to get so competitive that you're going to cheat, please do not sign up.  In the end, someone will find out, and no one will like you....  #nocheaters

So come on!  Join in on the fun!  Get your friends together and join the challenge!  Stop in today to get signed up!  Remember, I'll need $50 cash to add to the pot!  Bring your $50 cash in an envelope with your name and email address on it and drop it into our lockbox next to the front door of Barberry Health Center!  I'll then get you added to the Challenge!  Be sure to drop me an email and let me know when you dropped it off so I know it's there to pick up and that I need to include you in the email on Sunday.
