Well I did it!! I MADE IT TO 30 lbs off!! My goal was 20, but I kept going and I made to 30lbs today!! It was so much work, time and dedication, but so worth it!! I did something for me!! Which is very unusual for me!! Usually I put everyone else first, but this time it was my turn!! I want to Thank Joy Boerboom at Barrberry Health!! I took classes last in January, Feb. and Mar. We weighed in on the first day and last day! Classes were on good eating habits, nutrition, sleep habits, reading labels on food, daily workout sessions and I worked out EVERYDAY!!!! (I encourage you to give Joy’s classes a try she is Amazing inside and out!!)

"I worked with Joy as my coach for nutrition, through phone, texts, and email coaching. 3 words-It Was Great! Each week, Joy guided me to set up small, realistic goals for the week. I then would write everything down that I ate for the week, email it to her, and at the end of the week, through a phone call, we’d talk about how I did and what I could do better. Then we either tweaked the goal for the next week (if I didn’t feel ready to move on), or set a new goal for the week. It was great to have someone to be accountable to, and Joy was very good at being kind, yet making me “tow the line”. She was very instructive on what was nutritious, and what was detrimental for my health. It was a good month for my well being, or being well!"

"My name is Tim. June 2016 was the first contact I had with Barberry Health Center - Joy. 1st what brought me to this point in time. In August of 2007, I was diagnosed with Parkinson Disease (PD). After the initial shock we (my wife & I) started to get educated on PD. From there, I did the Big & Loud therapy for PD. Changed my eating habits, started exercising, and started PD medications, all per the Dr. After about 5 years I switched doctors,(one of the best decisions I made). We tried different medications until we found what worked best for me. I was holding my own, but still felt like something was missing. Along comes Joy.
I am part of a PD support group and Joy showed up one day to promote Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) which is a non contact boxing & exercise for people with PD. After her selling speech about the program, I knew it was for me. July of 2016 I started RSB with Joy and there were 5 others there too. It was what I was missing. I started to feel better about myself, I wasn't as lazy throughout the day, I started getting stronger, my balance improved, I started sleeping better, and my quality of life was better. I box twice a week, but I was still looking for more so I talked to Joy about eating habits & food. She sold me on her program, so hook, line, & sinker, she had me.
In March of 2017 along with Joy's help I got rid of the junk foods with chemicals, sugars, and preservatives and replaced them with organic foods fresh fruits & vegetables, greens, and nuts & seeds. Now Sept 2017, I had my 10 yr check up & was told by the Dr. that I had pretty much improved my fight against PD to be back to where I was 10 yrs ago. He said "Great Work" and don't change a thing and "your next 10 yrs look encouraging". With Joy's help in my eating habits & RSB and the doctors, I have more energy, more memory, I'm stronger, I have better piece of mind and something to look forward to. I can't thank Joy enough for caring and helping me to reach this level.
Anybody can do this. First, you yourself need to make the commitment and stick to it. That means daily, weekly, monthly. There are people out there (Joy) willing to help but it all starts with "YOU". I'm not saying it's easy. It is still an every day fight, but now I have someone to encourage me to FIGHT BACK ---- Joy Thanks Joy. Tim Anderson"

"Joy is AMAZING!! In the short 2 weeks, she helped my boyfriend and I, we completely changed our diet. I went from a 12% nutritious diet to a 63% nutritious diet. Not to mention I've lost 10 pounds!! I no longer drink soda and I feel great!! ..... it's not a diet, it's not a murder to your bank account, it's not a crazy weight-loss regime. It's simply a food change. Learn what's good for you and start putting that into your body. Even if it's as little as having some fruit for breakfast instead of a cereal bar as you run out the door. Just those LITTLE changes can make a BIG difference."

"I have been personal training with Joy since October 2016, 1-2 times a week and also attending Circuit Boxing classes 1-2 times per week. When I started working with Joy, I had already lost 85#, and was primarily looking to gain muscle strength and decrease my % body fat. Throughout the past 4 months, I have lost 5.6# and decreased my body fat by 4.8%. I feel stronger and more confident. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next few months!
Joy is great to work with, both in a group setting and in a personal training setting. She will push you to your limits, and then encourage you to do just a little bit more. I love the variety of exercises, and I never know what is on the agenda for the day, but always leave exhausted! Workouts are fun, and the time flies by. "Photo # 1 is of my wife and I at Easter (end of March, 2016) This is right around when I was at my heaviest....320 lbs. I don't have my button on my jacket buttoned because I couldn't button it without making "fat guy in a little coat" actually come to real life (for you Tommy boy Fans).

I am a fireman on the Marshall Fire Dept. I could no longer zip up my turnout gear pants. I had decided that it was time for me to take back over my life, but exactly wasn't sure how to do it. I had noticed these Barberry Health Center ads come across my Facebook account and thought I would inquire about it. I made an appointment with Joy. This was the middle of June when this all happened. I went to Joy 2 times per week for some personal training. This was the start of instilling the discipline that I needed to #1, start actually working out again and #2, eating right. All I had to do was follow Joy's plan of writing down exactly what I was putting into my mouth & get my ass out of bed in the morning to workout on the days that I didn't have Joy to kick my ass. I get asked a lot what kind of diet I'm on or that I did. People don't believe me when I tell them that I'm not on a diet and that I just watched what I ate and drank. Since June I was wearing size 42 waist Jeans and I am now comfortably in a pair of 36 waist Jeans. I still have a little more weight to lose but I am comfortable how to safely do it and have the motivation and discipline to accomplish that goal and to stay into this healthy lifestyle.

"It took me years to find the perfect trainer. I was completely out of shape, I had virtually no muscles in my core, and my lower back hurt constantly. I needed someone who could push me to improve, but not push me so hard that I hated working out. I finally found that person in Joy! Her sessions are challenging but enjoyable at the same time. Within the first few weeks of working out with her, my core muscles began to strengthen, and my confidence and energy improved. "Reluctantly, I was recruited to try a circuit class by a friend. I am so thankful she talked me into joining! The circuit classes at Barberry Health Center are different than any class I have participated in before. Since the classes are structured as a circuit, not only do I feel all areas of my body are well worked, I don’t get bored or find myself looking at the clock wondering how much longer we have. The hour flies by! Even though you are in a class, Joy explains each phase of the stations if you are unsure what you should be doing and helps individuals customize the activity to their readiness level by varying weights and intensity. The class is 60 minutes of hard working cardio, strength, and agility training all in one to leave you feel like you really got a good “full body” workout in the end. Other class members are friendly, welcoming and engaging so you never have to feel like you are the “new kid” – we really do have fun getting fit together!"

"I came to see Joy after having a neck injury that has caused me lots of pain and has weakened me over the last several years. I showed her the print out of my restrictions and told her that I wanted to strengthen myself as I knew with age and time it was only going to get worse. I’ve only been training with her for 5-6 months and I’m addicted. I feel so much better and have see so much improvement already. The best part of her training is she changes it up every time, I typically train twice a week and there are times it will be weeks before I do the same thing. Just this week I did something I hadn’t done yet. I highly recommend Joy!! You definitely get your moneys worth as she keeps you busy and moving for the entire session."
